What are Lumineers?
Lumineers are a name brand, low profile porcelain veneer. Like traditional porcelain veneers, Lumineers are crafted to fit over the front facing surfaces of teeth. Unlike traditional veneers, we will not typically need to remove any healthy tooth structure prior to the placement of your Lumineers. This means they’re much more conservative, and you may be able to undo the results in some situations.
What is the Lumineers Process Like?
Lumineers are placed over the course of two visits to our office. During your first appointment, we’ll capture impressions, x-rays, and images that will be used to design flawless Lumineers. Then, we’ll send our design to a trusted dental lab where your minimal prep veneers will be crafted. When we receive the custom Lumineers, you’ll return to our Plano dental office, so we can place your Lumineers.
Should I Consider Treatment with Lumineers?
Like traditional porcelain veneers, Lumineers can be used to correct and conceal a number of smile flaws, including chips, cracks, gaps between teeth, and deep-set stains. Porcelain veneers are traditionally much thicker, so they can be used to safely and effectively repair more advanced cosmetic flaws. The much thinner Lumineers may not be the ideal solution to enhance smiles with more extensive irregularities, but they can address many of the cosmetic concerns that are corrected with traditional veneers. Before recommending Lumineers, we’ll need to examine your smile during a cosmetic dentistry consultation. During this appointment, we’ll do our best to help you
How do I Care for My Lumineers?
Following the placement of Lumineers, you can continue to brush and floss regularly and visit our office twice a year as usual. However, you may want to make some changes to the oral hygiene products you use. Because Lumineers are so much thinner than traditional veneers, you’ll want to take special care to avoid excessive wear by using soft bristled toothbrushes, minimally abrasive toothpaste, and waxed floss. During your regular dental appointments, we can help you to pick the right oral hygiene products to keep your Lumineers looking and feeling great for years to come.
