Restoring Your Smile with Health and Beauty
Traditionally, tooth replacements in the past have only restored the visible portion of your tooth. However, thanks to dental implants in Plano, Dentist Plano can now restore your teeth from the roots up. If you’re missing multiple teeth, it’s important not to prolong treatment. Missing teeth can lead to shifting of remaining dental structure, jawbone deterioration, and even more lost teeth if they aren’t replaced as soon as possible. Read on to learn more about dental implants and how you can benefit from them over other solutions.
Non-Implant Tooth Replacement Options
Patients have the following traditional options for replacing multiple teeth:
- Crown & bridge: a popular option for one to three consecutively missing teeth, a crown and bridge literally “bridges” the gap in your smile. This minimally invasive option is typically for patients who still have remaining dental structure to support their bridge. This personalized prosthetic will be permanently attached to dental crowns that anchor it in place.
- Partial dentures: For patients who are missing multiple teeth that are both consecutive and nonconsecutive, partial dentures are used to replace your lost dental structure while maintaining it. Like fitting together the pieces of a puzzle, this prosthetic allows you to complete your smile without extracting any natural teeth.
- Full dentures: For those who are missing all or most of their teeth, dentures can replace the entire smile. This composite, gum-colored base that is attached to prosthetic teeth is held in place with natural suction or denture adhesive. For patients with missing teeth, they dramatically improve their ability to speak and eat.
The Dental Implant Process
Once we decide that you’re a good candidate for dental implants, your surgery will be planned. During surgery, there will be small incisions made in your gums to reveal your jawbone. After drilling small holes into your bone, your implants will be placed. This process can take as little as one visit, but you will have to allow at least 3 to 4 months for the implants to permanently integrate into your bone. After this osseointegration process, you’ll come back into our office where we will place your custom-made restoration, ensuring that you’re satisfied with the final result.
Benefits of Implant-Retained Dental Prosthetics
We offer dental implants to our patients because of these unique advantages that they have over other options:
- Strength: Dental implants allow for maximum biting power, giving you the ability to eat and chew all of your favorite food items.
- Comfort: Rooted in your jawbone, dental implants look and feel like your natural teeth for the most comfortable day-to-day wear.
- Lifespan: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, which is longer than any other solution by far.
- Health: Possibly their biggest benefit, dental implants prevent your jawbone from deteriorating after tooth loss by stimulating it.
- Confidence: With implants, you won’t have to worry about a replacement that shifts and slides around when you’re laughing, speaking, or eating in public.
